After watching the RE movies again I had an uncontrollable urge to do an image of my favorite Resident Evil character, Jill Valentine. She may have some awful voice acting in the games (though Sienna Guillory in the second movie was pretty hot), but I still like her.
I decided to play around with cell shading by selection for this pic. I don't do it much so it's still a learning experience with me. I was originally going to do more of a Sienna RE Apocalypse look rather than a RE3 Nemesis look but with my simplified style it was much easier to a: not try and caricature Sienna and b: not draw all the extraneous gear on her shoulders and waist. This made for a cleaner character design which is better suited to this style anyhow.
I also decided to forgo highlights for everything but her hair and eyes and did my shading without feathering my selections (as I normally do). I think this supports the vectorized lines better and keeps the shading more subtle. As I said this was an experiment for shading as much as it was a tribute picture (and another cheap trick for more views), so I would like to know how you think it worked.
Jill Valentine, Resident Evil, and S.T.A.R.S. are property of Capcom.
nice! ...i've never played resident evil 2 or 3 though...

It's originally her outfit from RE3 and was added into the remake of RE1 and used for the second film, and for good reason. I never played RE3 but I have the GC port of it and will play it once I finish Genji Dawn of the Samurai for PS2. I'll let you know how 3 was when I finish.

Very nice work man, even though I never really got into those game or the movies. I was about to ask your opinion on whether or not I should ink the drawing I'm currently working on and then I saw this and it sort of settled it for me.
Cool. I don't know if I can go back to the older ones though.... RE4 was awesome.

Cant say I'm a big fan of vector coloring, But I think it looks nice.
Personally I never really liked Jill. Didn't really like the movies ether, they where a big letdown for me. Mostly because they didn't have Leon in them, Which is why I'm really looking forward to Resident Evil Degeneration.
Yeah this is a new look for you isn't it....the cell shading? I knew there was something different about this. You've got a good style to implement cell shading with.
Soon you will convert entirely to vector and your transformation to the dark side will be complete.

Technically it was polygon marque and bucket tool but it does kinda look like the more complex vectors and it works fairly well for cell shading (or at least better than my doing it all by hand which I did in my White Knight comic).
I hated the first movie until after the second one came out because I was pissed that Jill was not in it. I like Leon also but since I started RE with the original game Leon did not rank as high as Jill for me (nor for that matter did Claire). Lots of people like to make cracks about Leon calling him stupid, but if they held all the other RE cast members to the same standards they would be idiots too (mostly do to the awful English vocal cast and dialog). It was the RE3 references in Apocalypse which sold me on the movies and also that I think Milla Jovovich is hot despite not being from the games and totally upstaging Jill. I'm eager to see Degeneration also.
