Artist's Comments

This is my art trade for :iconarmendangerous:. This is his original character Killian [link] . In exchange he's doing my character Selene. When we both laid out option for the trade neither of us was surprised that the other picked a good looking female out of the lot.

I happened upon a new way of shading the pics today and it looks like the more blended work I do but without all the intermediary steps and a whole lot fewer opacity changes. This pic only took me about 20-30min to paint as opposed to 1-2 hours as normal. In DA sized pics it really does not make that much of a difference (compared to how it looks to me in my 50-100mb photoshop files at 400% magnification). I also discovered that anti aliasing is not your friend and with it turned off I should be able to do more things and things I already do faster. This is why I read and try new things, you never know what you'll discover (often by accident).

People tell me it's funny, so I got that going for me. Then if they're really nice, they buy a shirt [link]

Great work (as usual) ;)

Coloring and shading are really good. Keep this style. In my opinion, you dont need to make this more complicated, simple and clear coloring is the best.

Some tutorials suggest to turn off anti-aliasing. Good anti-aliasing is a turned off anti-aliasing.

Also I like your inking. I wonder how there isnt any shaky line.

BTW Whats this trade? I didnt understand its purpose.

Thanks.

Good to head.

If only I had know sooner. I've had to do a tremendous amount of work to overcome the problems anti-aliasing was causing me. I wish I had known the culprit years ago.

1. Lots of practice inking, 2. using photoshop to clean up all the mistakes in my inking and places where I had to redo lines, 3. using Flash (though I hear you can use CS2-3 or Illustrator also) to vectorize the lines which cleans them up a good deal.

An art trade is where you do a picture for somebody and they do one for you. Generally people draw each other's original characters (because we all like to see decent fanart of our own stuff). I like the chance to draw other people's characters and I like getting pics done of my characters so it's great for me. And really, offering a drawing is the only easy way to get a picture out of most people and everybody wins when you art trade.

Haha, that's so f*cking cool!!!

This is so awesome...where do I start? The attention to detail kicks ass, the colouring/shading is top-notch, and seeing my character in your style - great lines and proportions - is definitely a treat.

Wow...great job...thanks dude. I'm gonna post Selene right now!

PS - FAVed!

Very nice... :-) I'd like to shade better.

When you do things, do not let selfishness or pride be your guide. Instead, be humble and give more honor to others than to yourselves. Do not be interested only in your own life, but be interested in the lives of others. Philipians 2:3-4 (NCV)

This one I did mostly with a blurred brush and 30-40% opacity.

Yeah same here.

If in the future you ever find yourself up for another one, just lemme know.
